Discover the opportunities available in African and African American Studies at University of Arkansas, including scholarships and study abroad options.
Did you know that the U of A’s African and African American Studies (AAST) program provides a truly interdisciplinary education, with a focus on topics like history, political science, English, sociology, social work, education, journalism and languages such as Swahili and Portuguese?
And, by studying the African diaspora both at home and abroad, students will discover and examine tools used to organize forpositive change and social justice. Â
No other program at the U of A offers such a holistic view of world history and change or helps students discover as much diversity of people and thought.Â
“Through the study of the histories, cultures and contemporary experiences of the African diaspora, we examine the important role that race has played in the creation of the world in which our students live,” said Najja K. Baptist, the program’s director and assistant professor of political science.
“We strive to advance social consciousness, promote equity and support the highest level of academic excellence through critical and global thinking in the classroom and beyond,” he added.
