The Kansas City, Missouri Police Department is asking for the public’s help as they search for a 19-year-old St. Louis man nearly two months after he was first reported missing by his family.
T’Montez Hurt’s loved ones have been desperate for answers the entire time.
Hurt was last seen on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024, in the area of 12th Street and Troost around 11;40 a.m.
Police described Hurt as a black male with red hair and brown eyes. He is 6’1” and 160 pounds.
He was last seen wearing a Royal Blue Price Chopper polo & Green Sweatpants. He also has a tattoo on his right arm.
KMBC 9 spoke with his family just a few days after they reported him missing to authorities. The freshman at Missouri Western State University was in Kansas City early Thursday morning with a friend when he called his grandma in mental distress.
“He wasn’t sounding right,” Tecona Donald-Sullivan, Hurt’s grandma, told KMBC in early February. “Then he sounded terrified and scared.”
She called the police in Kansas City and says, eventually, Hurt was taken to Saint Luke’s Hospital. He was released after a few hours and taken to the Greyhound bus station by a Z Trip Taxi, but the bus station was closed.
He can be seen on surveillance video attempting to get back into the Z Trip where he left his phone. He was unable to get back into the vehicle and started walking south.
Donald-Sullivan lives in St. Louis and arrived in Kansas City the next day to file a police report. She said officers told her they saw Hurt on traffic cameras near 77th and Troost on Thursday afternoon, still walking south. That’s why Donald-Sullivan was back at the intersection Tuesday handing out flyers.
“I’m all the way from St. Louis, and I’m asking for help in your city. I’ve got posters all down Troost,” she said. “I’m going all around everywhere looking for my grandbaby.”
Donald-Sullivan says she won’t leave Kansas City until Hurt is found.
“I just want Kansas City to know that T’Montez Hurt has plenty of family in St. Louis, Missouri, and in Nashville. He is so loved,” she said. “We want him at home, and if anybody has seen him, please help us bring T’Montez home.”
She’s putting her personal number on every flyer she’s hanging up, hoping Hurt could recognize the number and know she is looking for him. She’s asking anyone with information to call her at 314-305-9478 or the Kansas City Police Department’s Missing Persons Unit at 816-234-5043.
