TV anchor Sara Sidner courageously shared her battle with stage 3 breast cancer during a heartfelt segment on CNN News Central. Sidner, 51, revealed that she is in her second month of chemotherapy and will also undergo radiation treatment and a double mastectomy.

In a video shared on X, Sidner urged viewers on live TV to be cautious, highlighting the statistic that one in eight women will face breast cancer. She shared her disbelief, noting her healthy lifestyle and lack of family history with the disease, yet finding herself diagnosed with breast cancer.

“I am that one in eight in my friend group. I have never been sick a day in my life. I don’t smoke, I rarely drink, breast cancer does not run in my family, and yet here I am with stage 3 breast cancer,” she wrote.

Sidner’s announcement brought attention to the stark disparities in healthcare outcomes, particularly for Black women who are 40% more likely to die from breast cancer compared to their White counterparts. Her message was clear: regular mammograms and self-exams are crucial for early detection.

“So to all my sisters, Black and White and Brown out there, please, for the love of God, get your mammograms every single year. Do your self-exams, try to catch it before I did,” Sidner continued.

“Try to catch it before I did,” she added.

Despite the gravity of her situation, Sidner expressed a newfound appreciation for life, stating that her ordeal has taught her to love life even more and not sweat the small stuff. “I have thanked cancer for choosing me. I have learned that no matter what hell we go through in life, I am still madly in love with this life,” Sidner said.

“Just being alive feels different for me now. I am happier because I don’t stress about the foolish little things that used to annoy me,” she added while holding back her tears.

Raised in Florida by an African-American father and a British mother, Sidner is the co-host CNN News Central and she is a vocal advocate for women’s health.
