Travel: The Georgia Aquarium, a Cool Place to Visit for you next vacation

Aquariums are awesome! This past December of 2022, my family and I visited the Georgia aquarium for the first time. The visit was excellent. I had no idea that Atlanta had an aquarium of this magnitude; it’s a must-see. So I wanted more information about the Georgia aquarium as I walked through the aquarium. It is the largest in the United States.

I was amazed. I’ve been to several aquariums nationwide, such as the National Aquarium in Baltimore, MD, The Virginia Beach Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center, Shedds Aquarium in Chicago, and the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas in New Orleans. I understand that St. Louis, MO, has an aquarium now. But the Georgia aquarium had some really spectacular, even spectacular, exhibits. If you can go to an aquarium, it is a very informative pastime.

I highly recommend that anyone in the Georgia Atlanta area visit the Georgia aquarium. So I was curious about the history of the Georgia aquarium. After looking at some information, for example, on (wikipedia.org), I saw that the aquarium, when it opened in 2005, It was the largest aquarium in the world from its opening in 2005 until 2012, when it was “surpassed by the S.E.A. Aquarium in Singapore and the Chimelong Ocean Kingdom in China; the Georgia Aquarium remains the largest aquarium in the United States and the third largest in the world.” A lot of credit goes to a $250 million donation from a local businessman and Home Depot co founder Bernard Marcus which, from what I can read, helped a lot with the funding.

So much excitement ahead for the summer of 2023. Highly encourage parents to take their children to any aquarium no matter what location in the United States. I encourage adults who have never been to the aquarium to take advantage of taking time to do that. The Georgia Aquarium is the only aquarium in North America home to manta rays and whale sharks, the largest fish in the world. There is a demand for Marine Biologists. The aquatic world is still being discovered by scientists every year.

My reason for writing this article is that I wanted to find out what’s the history of aquariums in this country. Also, how many African American people are associated with marine biology? Florida State University reports that “marine sciences would not be what they are today without the significant contributions of four integral Black scientists – Ernest Everett Just, Roger Arliner Young, Evan B. Forde, and Ashanti Johnson.”
