City Hall: Report Released on Public Vote for Rams Settlement Ideas

Even though, I didn’t see any of my ideas: to provide grants to nonprofit organizations, renovate abandoned houses for the unhoused, and pave these streets. As well as assist small businesses in getting reasonable locations downtown. I felt they were going to do, what the City always does, help their own.

Rams Settlement – Results of Public Vote and Next Steps

A big thank you to all participating in the Public Vote on Ideas for the Rams Settlement! Our report is out, which highlights the results of the vote by ward and compares differences between groups of people based on race, income, and age. Read it here!

During last evening’s meeting of the Committee of the Whole, the Board received a presentation on the results of the Public Vote and discussed the idea of a Municipal Endowment Fund and the Mayor’s request for additional funds to be allocated to the Convention Center Renovation.

In addition, Committee Chair Alderwoman Alisha Sonnier committed to hold hearings to explore the following ideas:

1. Replacement of Water Mains
2. Traffic Calming and Pedestrian-Friendly Street Design
3. Increasing Wages or Salaries for City Workers
4. Free or Subsidized Child Care for Residents
5. Establish a Redevelopment Revolving Loan Fund

Keep a look out for when these hearings are scheduled so you can attend to learn more and ask questions or testify in support of these ideas! In the meantime, you can submit public comments on each of the ideas above. These will be updated with additional information following hearings.
