SoJohna Bell: Developing Beauty Professionals and Creating Economic Change
SoJohna Bell, the Founder and CEO of Ryze Manufacturing, LLC, is at the forefront of revolutionizing the beauty industry. Her tech-enabled platform assists beauty professionals in developing their own brand of natural products, catering to a wide range of individuals, including beauty professionals, influencers, and everyday people looking to bring their hair and skincare products to life.
The inspiration for starting Ryze Manufacturing came when SoJohna and her sisters took over the Ladyz of Elegance salon, a business that had been established by their aunts in 1990. They envisioned a one-stop-shop where customers didn’t have to worry about sourcing products or hair extensions separately. They wanted to provide a comprehensive solution. Through extensive research and development, they realized that their revenue increased significantly when customers walked out the door with a bag of products. It was this realization that led SoJohna to create Ryze Manufacturing.
When asked about the decision to move the company back to St. Louis from Atlanta, SoJohna expressed her love for Atlanta, the city where she came of age. However, she wanted to create a legacy company, not just something she would develop and sell off. She saw the potential of creating a business that would recirculate dollars within her community and decided to bring it back to her hometown of St. Louis. By doing so, she aimed to contribute to the economic growth and development of the city.
In addition to her entrepreneurial endeavors, SoJohna is committed to empowering young talent from underserved areas. She actively works with youth, teaching them STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and life sciences. By imparting valuable skills in product creation, production, and sales, she equips them with life skills and entrepreneurship know-how. SoJohna believes that traditional schooling often emphasizes employment rather than fostering a spirit of entrepreneurship. Through her mentorship, she strives to instill in them the mindset of future business owners.
Looking ahead to her legacy, when asked what she wants the world to know about SoJohna Bell when she’s long gone, she replied, “That I made a difference and that I changed our economics.” SoJohna’s passion for creating economic change and empowering others shines through in her work. By enabling beauty professionals and nurturing the potential of young minds, she leaves a lasting impact on the industry and her community, ensuring a brighter and more prosperous future for generations to come.
