Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis unveil free book vending machine, promoting literacy and empowering youth in the community.

(St. Louis, MO – March 28, 2024) Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis is excited to unveil the new public book vending machine to help youth improve their reading skills. Thanks to BGCSTL’s partnership with The Noir Bookshop, this one-of-a-kind, FREE public book vending machine ONYX is located at BGC Herbert Hoover Club, 2901 N. Grand Blvd., St. Louis, Mo. 63107.
Club members receive a token to pay for their books. The book machine holds 300 books provided by The Noir Bookshop. BGC President Dr. Flint Fowler says, “We are delighted to enhance our reading and literacy programs by partnering with The Noir Bookshop to offer youth free books.” Dr. Fowler added. “Studies prove reading helps youth think critically, improves comprehension, increases confidence, and contributes to academic success.
Academic success is a priority outcome for Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis.”
“At The Noir Bookshop, we believe Books Are Good,” says Owner Ymani Wince. Wince opened the bookstore in the spring of 2022. She says, “As part of the Books Are Good campaign, we are happy to place an ONYX book vending machine in BGC Herbert Hoover, a location with high youth volume. I wanted youth of all ages and genres to have access to free books.”

The mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis (BGCSTL) is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who
need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. BGCSTL provides after-school, teen, sports
and summer programs to youth across the Bi-State Region while also providing a safe place for them to learn and grow. The Clubs
serve youth across the region at twelve locations, including (Adams Park Club, Bentwood Townhomes, Bethalto Club, Lovejoy Club,
Hazelwood Elementary Larimore School Club, Herbert Hoover Club, Mathews-Dickey Club, O’Fallon Park Club, Riverview Gardens
