Donovan Mitchell is one of the NBA’s brightest young stars. At 25-years-old, Mitchell has been a three-time NBA All-Star, helped the Utah Jazz reach the playoffs consistently, and is just a fun player to watch. Mitchell is a player that any team would be happy to have, and that may be a possibility in the near future.
According to reports, the Utah Jazz are willing to listen to trade offers for Mitchell. Utah initially shut down rumors of trading Mitchell but recently changed their stance. While this does not mean the Jazz are trading Mitchell, there is still a possibility.
There are a few teams interested in Mitchell, and with the right offer they could land him. Here are three teams that could land Donovan Mitchell.
1.) The New York Knicks
The New York Knicks are one of the most talked about teams in the NBA. They have had their share of struggles but have young talent to build around. RJ Barrett continues to develop and has the makings of a star. The Knicks have a young rim protector in Mitchell Robinson, who they signed to a four-year deal this summer. Julius Randle’s number went down this season, but if he gets back on track, the Knicks have another good player to build their team around. But they need more. Mitchell (a New York native) is an ideal player for the Knicks. He is young, he can score and is a reliable defender. If the Knicks acquire Mitchell without giving up all of their young talent, the Knicks could be a team to watch.
The Knicks also signed guard Jalen Brunson at the start of free agency. New York could set up their backcourt of the future with Brunson and Mitchell and become a legitimate playoff team. Only time will tell if this happens.
2.) The Miami Heat
The Miami Heat is another team whose name keeps coming up in the Mitchell trade rumors. The Heat were first in the East last season but lost to the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference finals. The Heat need another player to take them to the next level, and Mitchell is that player. Mitchell can be the focal point on offense, which takes pressure off Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo. Then, he can help out on the defensive end. A defense of Adebayo, Butler and Mitchell would give teams problems and would make the Heat a dangerous team.
If Mitchell lands anywhere, this might be the best option.
3.) The Charlotte Hornets
The Charlotte Hornets are an up-and-coming team. Their last two seasons consisted of play-in tournament games, with them barely missing the playoffs. The Hornets have a young, talented guard in LaMelo Ball, and Mitchell would be a great running mate for the former Rookie of the Year.
The Hornets have players like Gordan Hayward or Kelly Oubre Jr. that they could move for Mitchell, but would Utah want them? If Utah wants to rebuild (and Oubre and Hayward are not expiring contracts), the Jazz may be hesitant on making a trade. But if a trade does happen, the Hornets are one step closer to the playoffs.
Donovan Mitchell is an exceptional player, and where he lands, that team
