In a somber moment for the St. Louis community, we mourn the passing of Austin A. Layne Jr., a revered figure whose name has long been synonymous with compassion, dedication, and service. Austin A. Layne Jr., the president and CEO of Austin A. Layne Mortuary, Inc., passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2023, at the age of 87. In regards, the news of his departure has left a void that words can hardly fill, but his enduring legacy lives on in the hearts of those he touched.

 Born on July 12, 1936, in St. Louis, Austin A. Layne Jr. dedicated his life to providing solace and support to grieving families in their most challenging times. He founded and owned Austin A. Layne Mortuary, Inc., a place where countless individuals found comfort, compassion, and a way to pay tribute to their loved ones. 

One of Austin’s lasting contributions was his embrace of technology to connect friends and family during times of loss. He introduced online condolences, providing a platform for farewell messages, thoughts, and prayers to be shared, bridging the gap between those who mourned and those who offered solace.  Austin A. Layne Jr.’s commitment to the St. Louis community extended beyond his profession. 

Moreover, he was an active participant in various community and civic groups, leaving an impactful mark wherever he went. His warm smile, support, and dedication to service will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.Throughout his career, Austin offered a range of personalized services, ensuring that each family’s unique wishes and requirements were met with care and respect. He provided great support during the darkest hours, guiding families through their grief with empathy and understanding.  

Sadly, as we bid farewell to Austin Augustus Layne Jr., we remember not only the man, but the profound impact he had on our community. His legacy of compassion, service, and love for St. Louis will continue to inspire us all.
