A commentary on the current political climate, the political mis-use of the Black women’s movement and the upcoming election.

As reports of various polling data suggest a deadlock in presidential polling between President Biden and former Pres. Donald Trump, the growing disdain in the available choices also suggest that neither have a mandate as preferred choices amongst their respective bases. As one whose political affiliation was Democrat amongst an African-American community that has leaned overwhelmingly Democrat, I’ll focus this on Democrat Biden, the upcoming ballot and the ideal of Black Girl Magic.
The “ideal’ of Black Girl Magic has galvanized support amongst and catapulted Black women and their accomplishments in every sector from the board rooms, ballot box, athletics, science, etc. I say “ideal” because many have used it, mainly in political circles conveniently with no sustained commitment to the upliftment and empowerment of women.
A very diplomatic way of saying many who have ridden this “Magic” carpet have been hypocritical in showing no strength in standing up beyond the realization of their own individual ambitions, like the political poster child of “Black Girl Magic”, VP Kamala Harris, whom many of us celebrated with pride the first Black VP, but has since in the estimation of many, tenure has been mediocre and lackluster in leveraging the platform to advance and speak to the causes of those who most celebrated her.
Full disclaimer I believe in the Magic of everything of a Black woman from her sacred womb and that which she births to her continuous, longstanding and historical strength in carrying the burdens of society and family. She is due full measure of honor, respect and deserving of every iota of support. I’m just not with the “fakery”!
Most notable to point in St. Louis, we watched the political lynching of the first Black Circuit Attorney in Kimberly Gardner, aided and abetted and silently colluded with by some Black women, a few politically castrated men and those amongst her own party. Currently, we see former Baltimore Prosecuting Attorney, Marilyn Mosby facing forty years in prison after the same unrelenting political and personal attacks.
There’s been silence, and whether those in the party agreed with her politics or not, the Democratic party, Black women, (political) as a whole have been silent. Where is the support from the administration for a pardon or leniency. Where’s the “Black Girl Magic” and the chorus commonly sung while galvanizing support at the polls. Yes, the Black community must come to a harsh realization that on many fronts we’re tolerated and have relationships of political convenience within the political structure.
It’s ok, it has it place, just as long as we collectively understand the transactional nature of this relationship dynamic, which skirts the line of political whoredom. Imam Jamil Al-Amin, the former H.Rap Brown said in his writing, “Revolution by the Book: The Rap is Live” that slogans are not programs. We have to be more substance voters demanding more than empty, unproven, feel good, rhetoric that has thus far offered at best pyrrhic victories and illusion of progress.
Biden’s indifference to a specific agenda to address particular needs of the African-American community has already shown a notable negative impact. Biden and some of his African-American handlers amongst clergy, Black congresspersons such as the powerful SC Congressman James Clyburn should bear note as some of them face blowback their silencing of anyone or opportunity to speak forcefully of a Black agenda.
Undecideds amongst the most loyal of Democratic bases, Blacks are at historical high percentage signaling a shift from the sure bet of Blacks showing up at the polls in blind allegiance. A shift not necessarily to Republican candidate but to a more independent engagement of politics and willingness to entertain independent candidates and caste intentional votes of conscience. Where is our litmus test for those seeking support?
Where’s our line we draw from those who attack the Black socio-economic and political power dynamic of our community?
What are the repercussions?
Just questions and rambling from an issuecrat.
