Join the Gateway Chapter, The Links, Incorporated for an afternoon of fun and jazz featuring vocalist Anita Jackson.

The Linked by Jazz Day Party will be held on Sunday, September 17, from 1-4 p.m. at Maryland House located at 44 Maryland Plaza in the Central West-End. Anita Jackson’s versatility is amazing.

Whether it’s Jazz, R&B, Pop or Broadway, Anita nails it. No stranger to St. Louis area audiences, this gifted singer/ actress has performed at leading St. Louis theaters (award-nominated performances, in multiple solo evenings at Jazz St. Louis, the Sheldon Concert Hall), and too many clubs and concert venues to count.

Anita has performed on Broadway and has toured nationally and internationally in theater productions, concerts and workshops. She has performed as a background vocalist for some of the most iconic recording artists of our time, such as Bette Midler (on Midler’s Grammy-winning 1991 Song of the Year “From a Distance”), Patti Austin, Mariah Carey, Cissy and Whitney Houston. Anita is the perfect artist to bring Nina Simone’s legacy back to life. Linked by Jazz Day Party tickets are $100 and can be purchased on-line at Eventbrite.com.

Tickets are going fast and no tickets will be sold at the door. Proceeds from the event will benefit community programs and college scholarships for local students. The Links, Incorporated is an international, not-for-profit organization, established in 1946 and consisting of more than 17,000 women committed to friendship and service. The Gateway Chapter is one of 299 chapters located in forty-one states, the District of Columbia, the Bahamas and the United Kingdom.

The Gateway Chapter is the original Bi-State Chapter of The Links, Incorporated covering Metro Illinois and St. Louis. For over thirty-seven (37) years, Gateway Chapter members have provided programming and service that promote education, civic and cultural activities that benefit and impact Metro Illinois and St. Louis.

Stacy Edwards is President of The Gateway Chapter, The Links, Incorporated. Link committee members planning the Linked by Jazz Day Party event include Rhonda Carter Adams, Micheal Anderson, Adrian Bracy, Shirley A. Brown, Nina Caldwell, Kilinyaa Cothran, Cynthia Crim, Vicki Edwards, Jackie Hamilton, LeAndra Haynes, Andrea JohnsonLee, Peggy Lewis LeCompte, Hon. Gloria Reno, Linda Baker Roby and Dr. Latonia Collins Smith.

Nominate a Doer: To keep readers informed on who’s who in the community, Shirley A. Brown’s column highlights a community “Doer” each week. Readers are invited to send “Doer” recommendations to Ms. Brown. Contact Ms. Brown at 367-8739 or sbrown601@aol.com.
