The second annual, NAAIA, Still I Rise, Rising & Emerging Leaders celebration was a rousing success from the moment guests arrived. They were greeted with an atmosphere of sophistication and charm. The stunning ballroom at The Four Seasons Hotel set the stage for an evening of opulence and grandeur adorned with a dazzling, African-themed décor.
The evening kicked off with fun and enthusiasm by co-mistress of ceremonies, Carol Daniel, senior producer & host at Nine PBS, and Tracie Berry-McGhee, founder of the I Define ME Movement. Next, the entire room joined in singing the negro national anthem, Lift Every Voice and Sing, followed by a captivating welcome speech from Corey Tyson, president of NAAIA St. Louis and self-proclaimed “girl dad”, acknowledging the contributions of the NAAI esteemed partners, sponsors, awardees and attendees. It was a moment of gratitude and recognition, honoring the collective efforts that have propelled the insurance industry forward.
Throughout the evening, guests were treated to a feast for the senses, with delicious cuisine, a custom dessert station, refreshing beverages, and live entertainment that kept spirits and energy levels high. The event program was fast-paced and entertaining, thanks to the quick wit and skill of Carol Daniel and Tracie Berry McGhee, who educated the audience on the difference between a selfie, a We-sie, and a Us-ie–ask your kids for a breakdown. Thoughtful and inspiring remarks were made by Jelani Fenton, Founder & CEO of Safari, and Kathy Conley-Jones, executive director, of Affinity Planning and Insurance Foundation and a key player in the forming of the NAAIA St. Louis chapter.
One of the highlights of the evening was the recognition of excellence within the insurance industry. Awards were presented to outstanding individuals and organizations who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, innovation, and commitment to excellence.
The awardees were:
Dr. Cheryl Watkins, president & CEO, YWCA (Colonel Clifton W. Gates Community Empowerment Award), Daniel and Henry Company (Rising Leadership Award Regional Insurance Brokerage), Forsythe Findley Wealth Advisors (Rising Leadership Award Financial Services), Gloria Sargent, CEO, United Healthcare (Diversity Champion Executive of the Year Award), AON, (STL Chapter NAAIA Leadership Ally of the Year Award), Safety National (Rising Leadership Award Insurance Carrier).
In addition to the recognition of industry leaders, a portion of the evening was dedicated to future leaders as well. Three scholarships were awarded the Chris Hudlin scholarship. The Hudlin scholarship was awarded to Cameron Clayborn (Cardinal Ritter College Prep), Journey Pollard (Cardinal Ritter College Prep), and Ty-Kia Clark (East St. Louis Senior High) to further their education in insurance, risk management, business, IT, actuarial science, finance or marketing.
Another evening highlight was an engaging and purposeful address from keynote speaker, Dana Wilson, founder and CEO of CHIP. Wilson captivated the audience with her words of audaciousness, empowerment, and her courageous focus on changing the face of the financial services industry.
As the night progressed, guests had the opportunity to network and mingle with industry peers, forge new connections, and strengthen existing relationships. The NAAIA Still I Rise, Rising & Emerging Leaders celebration provided an evening of meaningful conversations and collaborations that fostered a sense of community, diversity, and solidarity within the insurance industry.
